Eric Cutler to star in title role of ‘Les Contes d’Hoffmann’ at Semperoper Dresden
October 1, 2016
Eric Cutler will sing the eponymous role in a new production of Offenbach’s fantastical Les Contes d’Hoffmann, this season at Semperoper Dresden. Mr. Cutler performed the role to critical acclaim at Madrid’s Teatro Real (available on Blu-ray & DVD), with journalists praising his “clean and bright” (Mundo Clasico) voice and “supple tenor sound” (Deutschlandfunk). Performances in Dresden take place December 4, 7, 10, 16, 19 & 23 and January 2 & 7, with a cast that also features Peter Rose as the Four Villains, Christina Bock as Nicklausse / The Muse, Tuuli Takala as Olympia, Sarah-Jane Brandon sings Antonia, and Masha Brueggergosman is Giulietta. Frédéric Chaslin leads the Staatskapelle Dresden for this engagement, which features a staging by Johannes Erath. Mr. Cutler and Mr. Erath previously collaborated on a highly regarded production of Euryanthe at Oper Frankfurt in 2015.
