Erik in ‘Flying Dutchman’ at the Houston Grand Opera

Eric Cutler opens his 2018/19 season at the Houston Grand Opera singing Erik in Wagner’s Flying Dutchman. Praised earlier this year in his debut as Erik in a concert-version of the opera in Munich, Abendzeitung München said “Eric Cutler brought his experience with the French repertoire to Erik. At the moment, nobody sings more beautifully and without unnecessary sentiment.”

Tomer Zvulun directs this new production about the nautical legend, with Patrick Summers conducting the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra and Chorus. The show opens the season on October 19 and runs until November 2 at the Wortham Theater Center. The production features a first-rate cast with Andrzej Dobber as the cursed Dutchman, Melody Moore as Senta, Kristinn Sigmundsson as Daaland, Richard Trey Smagur as the Steersman, and Leia Lensing as Mary.
